I found an option to combine a safari and transportation to my next destination and jumped on it. I've been on much better safaris, but this was a good way to kill two birds with one stone. We observed elephants, a couple of buffalo, storks, toucans, peacocks, male and female, deer, a couple of crocodiles, and of course monkeys. We looked long and hard for leopards but only found a paw print...
It was late when I got into Hiriketiya, so I didn't get out to explore the town until the following morning. Cute, small, almost undiscovered beach town.
I found a small piece of paradise. Look at the beach and clear water! It has tons of restaurants and bars right on the water and the surfing looked to be pretty good.
Spent the day shopping and exploring the town and made it back to a restaurant to watch the sunset. Paradise!
Pictures from my journey to Galle.
It was a nice drive, with beautiful beaches along the way. I would love to come back here one day. But for now, off to another southern beach town: Galle- I can't wait to see the stilt fishermen!
At the last minute, I decided to spend 2 days in the capital, Colombo. Below are pictures of the city center and the resort I stayed at. The hotel had a private beach, but I opted to hangout at the rooftop infiniti pool overlooking the Indian Ocean.
I visited the art museum and Buddhist Temple as well.
Independence Square and waterfront
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Sri Lanka. It is a beautiful country, the people were fabulous, and I LOVE the food. I never knew there were so many different kinds of curry. I know I will go back there for sure. I didn't go to the northern side of the island due to poor weather, but it's supposed to be even more beautiful—so that means I will return! And I can't wait!
