Cote D'Ivoire/ Ivory Coast
I was so looking forward to visiting Ivory Coast! What I researched, it seemed to be a modern, developed city. A little surprise after getting there...but this is what I discovered. Enjoy!
Abidjan is the main city, however Le Peninsula is the government center. These are pictures of my arrival and traveling to my hotel. Then tours and discovering the city.
So below we visit the Nelson Mandela Peace park and also the food that's popular in Ivory Coast. Gateau Coco, Croquettes or ChinChin, Garba-which I loved! Beignets(Plain, sweet and filled with fish) and finally Painbro(Pain Brochette- a sandwich with meat and spices) local beer and hibiscus juice or Bissap. Also the special cocoa butter that I picked up. Better than any that I've gotten in the states(Mera Care). I then took a class on how to make Acheke(which is like couscous but made with casava)...OMG! So labor intensive, but part of Unesco's World Heritage status. It's a multi day process, all by hand. Passed down from generation to generation, done all by women.
I enjoyed my stay in Ivory Coast, but I won't lie. I'm not sure why they refer to it as the Manhattan of Africa or the Paris of West Africa. I found it to be just another west African country. Nothing special...anyway, I'm glad I visited. Doubt I would go back, but not because of the people. Everyone I met went above and beyond to help me- which I appreciated since I don't speak French. I found that just like all the other Francophone countries, they listen to American music, social media(TikTok, Youtube etc) that they know just enough English to assist. Well that plus my translation App. Anyway, next stop: Togo!
