Dar as they call it is the capital of Tanzania. I started with a half day tour.
A typical neighborhood. The guys had to earn a living and came up with mobile coffee shops. They start at 6am, going to bus stops etc to sell coffee and homemade peanut brittle to customers. It was very strong, but good. The peanut brittle is soft, and that what they use as sweetener. So you take a sip of coffee, then a bite of the sweet candy and it's actually good. This is an impoverished neighborhood. As they say, it's not what you have, but how you live. Everyone was extremely nice and welcoming. Still sad to see these conditions...The one apartment building- all they said was gentrification.
Me in the bajaje. I had to find a black grandma to help me with my leg. I got burned getting off a boda boda. Pic below...Next to that is a traditional healer shop/pharmacy. Traditional Swahili breakfast. Rice buns- either enjoyed for breakfast or as a snack. And as the guides said: The ghetto movie theatre... lower right are the selections for the night...and yes, they are VHS.

I spotted a "7/11"

My time in Dar has come to an end. Now the 8 hour bus ride to Mt Kilimanjaro. At least it's air conditioned!
