So as usual, my first day in town I usually take a food tour. Here's what I had. Breakfast is usually a fruit smoothie. Black eyed pea fritters or Kala. Lumpia= deep fried bean sprouts with chicken pieces- nice little snack. Oregano tea and sweet potato pancakes with honey drizzle. Ā Then we went by the floating market to get some fresh fruit. It was all things I have had before, so I didn't take pictures. Then off for a traditional lunch/dinner at the local cafeteria. We had goat stew, chicken stew, rice and beans, Tutu- another dish made from black eyed peas and corn meal, plantains and salad.
Ā LIE(pronounced LEE)= dessert. And of course I captures pics of all the street art along the way.
I also took a city tour sstarting at Riff Fort...
They are so excited- they made it to the World Cup for the first time ever! That's what the big soccer ball is representing(below).
I also went to the slavery Museum...
Afterwards I found a good local restaurant where I had a salt fish stew and funchii fries. I also tried the lionfish sampler...just fish. But it's harmful to the eco system, so they have started hunting them and eating them.
Also went to the distillery tour. Blue CuraƧao Liquor.
And of course the beaches...
Finally the Tambo Music Museum- I really went for the local food, and it was delicious!
Fresh homemade bread and cheese-right out of the wood oven. Oregano juice-quite refreshing! Sweet potato and raisin bun, that was surprisingly good and the best one, the peanut cookie-yummy!!! I was so excited about the food, I forgot to take pictures of the museum-it wasn't really a museum. It was someone's house with instruments on display...you aren't missing much.
I enjoyed the island very much! I would definitely return.
