The Gambia-Senegambia, Serrekunda, Tanji Fishing Market

After leaving Senegal, I headed south to The Gambia. What a wonderful little country! It's called the Smiling Coast for good reason. The people are wonderful and the country was just so lush and green. Not a lot to do, but I enjoyed my visit to the country. The highlight of the visit was the cooking class I took. They picked me up and took me to the venue and immediately had me pick out a native dress to change into. I got the entire experience and I absolutely loved it! After I changed, we went into town to go shopping for the benachin, which is a traditional dish. Quite similar to the Jollof rice from Senegal. But I really enjoyed the entire experience, cooking, shopping and wearing the traditional dress and headpiece. Enjoy the pictures and video's!

Above is the Tanji Fish Market. The guys had just come in to deliver the fish to the vendors to sell.
She also added 5 rooms so they can start offering the entire homestead experience. Everything I did, but you could actually sleep over and have traditional breakfast in the morning. I know if I go back, I will definitely do that. I felt like family! And I was so excited when we returned from the market and they were singing and doing a welcome dance-but I forgot to record it-sorry!

Pictures from around town. Mainly restaurants-great food! I found a mexican restaurant that, honestly was the best Mexican food I've had. Those seafood enchiladas were so flavorful and delicious. And I tried the side of mashed russet and sweet potatoes-with a kick. Again, delicious. I know if I stayed longer, I would have gone back! And the beautiful beaches too.
Overall I really enjoyed my time in The Gambia. I think I will definitely go back. I can see why more and more expats are moving there. And there's a lot of growth happening-building everywhere! It's honestly good to see. I hope you enjoyed the pics and video's.
