Road Trip- Sierra Leone to Liberia

So after leaving Freetown and the western peninsula we drove to Mikeny and Bo, where we stopped in a mining village and witnessed them mining for gold and diamonds. Then on to the border and into Liberia. We were supposed to stop in Robertsport, but the roads were washed out due to heavy rain. So we continued on to Monrovia and started the city tour.

They are mining gold and diamonds. I had no idea it was so labor intensive.

Then on to see the Mende tribe and what a show!

I wish I could upload all the video's but as I'm traveling and using WIFI that isn't always as fast as we're used to in other parts of the world, I had to stop with what I've uploaded. I think it was enough that you get the idea of the show. It went on for about 20 minutes. Very impressed with the impromptu show to welcome me to their village. In fact, other people came to watch once the music and show started. I was very fortunate to have this wonderful experience! They were so very kind and welcoming, and I had the perfect tour guide, Bassie, that set all this up for me. Anyone traveling to west Africa and want information, please feel free to contact me. I would be more than happy to share details with you. Next up: Liberia.
