Flying up to Flores to see the Mayan city of Tikal was such a good trip! This is the second largest city for the Mayans in Mesoamerica. It's actually amazing what they were able to create without modern technology and machinery. The detail! Second and third picture down is what they believe the city looked like when it was still inhabited. Then the Coati/ Pizote- part of the racoon family.

Then on to Yaxha the next day.

Next- Guatamala City. It's at the base of Pecaya volcano. You can see it below with the airplane in the picture. Berlin is their sister city.

In the middle above is a 3D map of the country. It was really cool and I wish I could have gotten 1 picture of it, but it was too big. Below is central square downtown with Cathedral, shopping and Government buildings.

A couple tasty snacks I tried as we were walking around downtown. And of course, street art!

Everything I read online said not to even waste time going to Guatemala City- it was too dangerous. I'm so glad I ignored that and went anyway. I felt safe the entire time-even walking by myself. And from the photos, you can see it's a beautiful city. People outside enjoying their Sunday with family and friends. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Guatemala and I'm sure I will return one day. The people were fabulous, the food absolutely delicious and the history is so fascinating! Next stop- Mexico.
