So after a wonderful day in Cameron Highlands I head off to Penang. I was fortunate enough to have a friend of my cousin to show me around for a day. I thank you again Theresa!
We weren't getting together until after work my second day, so I took advantage of the cooler weather early morning and walked around to see the area. I absolutely love the architecture! Then I did a food tour-yummy!!!
And of course the street art!
Just a side note, Jimmy Choo is from here and the art bottom right is dedicated to him. And for context, the 2 before him are from the street where the brothels are.
Georgetown Food Tour- tasty street food! The 100 plus is so refreshing and it's only sold in south east Asia. Other traditional food that we tried. Nasi Lemak is their national breakfast dish(top right) and I loved it in KL, but it was better here! The Satay(bottom right) was better too. It is different in Indonesia and Malaysia. I think I like Malaysia's better. It's spicier. Also the noodle dishes. I also had the fish ball(bottom right). I never tried it before, it's different. Can't say I love it...I did like the Char Kuey Teow and Wan Tan Mee(Top left) and will probably make that part of my regular diet. Even when I get back to the states. I also liked Char Kaoy Kak(Fried Radish Cake)-the middle. It was sweet and spicy. It's kind of a dessert or snack she said. Really good. As you can tell, most things are served in banana leaves. It gives it a different taste. I also found out we can use them as a natural mosquito repellent! And bottom right is Curry Mee- curry soup with 2 different types of noodles.
The next morning I went on a 10K bicycle ride and we stopped at a chinese fishing village. I've never seen a chicken with fluffy legs...
My cousin Mia sent me her friends contact info and they picked me up and took me out to dinner, dessert and sightseeing!!! Such a nice couple! The pictures at the top are of the house he was born in. His grandmother lived on the left, he and his family in the one he's standing in front of. They are now commercial businesses.(originals are below. I zoomed in with the one's above so you could see them).
Below is shaved ice dessert with fruit, beans and corn dessert.
Also some government buildings at the bottom.
It's the Chinese New Year. Very festive tonight! Georgetown has the largest Chinese population.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Penang! Tomorrow off to Langkawi.
