First glimpse of Cambodia. First thing I did after the lengthy travel was to go to a beautiful spa and get a traditional Khmer massage. Very relaxing! And she focused on my calves and feet which was much appreciated.
First view of the city at night on my way to the food tour.
And as usual, I did a food tour on my first night in town. Gotta learn what's the local dishes as well as what I want to enjoy during my stay. This tour did not disappoint! Traditional noodle dishes, barbeque, egg "omelets filled with meat" and pastries.
Below is the raw meat and unhatched eggs-which is a delicacy...and fruit and last but not least-bugs/ frogs, etc.
We finished the evening at an actual restaurant where we had a traditional Cambodian family style dinner, then on to a cool bar for a nightcap. One of the best food tours I've ever taken.
Food tour down, next morning I went out in search of street art. Not as much as other asian cities, but I found some...and the central market where I had Cambodian coffee for the first time. It's not as strong as Vietnamese coffee- which I liked, and also doughnuts-yum!
Pictures from around town below.
After exploring Phnom Penh, I went up to the mountains to a province called Mondulkiri. It was slow, so it felt like I had the resort to myself! Most people go here for the scenery, but there is also an elephant sanctuary here. I did that in Sri Lanka, so I opted to visit the waterfalls and simply relax by the pool for a couple days before heading to Siem Reap.
Above are pictures around town. It's a really small town, so not much to see...Below is the Coffee plantation we stopped at on our way to the waterfall. All the coffee had already been harvested, but it was a pretty area.
Below, waterfall... Bousra Eco Park.
Relaxing at the pool below, then off to Siem Reap!
I'm not sure if I would recommend stopping here or Kratie to be honest. I'm sure I'll return, but probably only to Siem Reap. I loved the vibe of the city and the people are FABULOUS! Stay tuned for those pictures.
